Featured 305-hp 5.6L V8 engine, the Off-Road trim added heavy-duty mechanical protection and all-terrain hardware.Key Mechanical DifferencesSuspension:
The Off-Road trim featured specialized Rancho struts and shocks, which provided better damping for rough trails compared to the standard setup.
Protection: the only trim to come standard with a full set of skid plates to protect vital underbody components like the oil pan and transfer case.
Wheels & Tires: Unlike the 18-inch wheels on regular trims, the Off-Road version used smaller 17-inch wheels paired with larger 285/70R17 all-terrain tires. Smaller wheels allow for more tire sidewall, which is better for absorbing off-road impacts.
Gearing: It included a lower gear ratio (often referred to as the towing ratio), providing better low-end torque for climbing or hauling.
Functional FeaturesBraking: The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) included a unique off-road tuning specifically designed to improve stopping performance on loose gravel.
Standard Interior Upgrades: For the 2004 model year, the SE Off-Road surprisingly includes premium features standard that were optional on the base SE, such as leather-appointed seats and Bose audio system.
