A striking late 19th–early 20th century Italian alabaster sculpture depicting a classical Bacchante seated gracefully upon a panther, a traditional symbol associated with Dionysus.
Carved in warm-toned alabaster, the figure displays refined Neoclassical influence, with soft anatomical modeling, delicately rendered drapery, and a serene Greco-Roman facial expression. The composition is dynamic yet balanced, with the flowing garment cascading naturally over the animal’s back and the panther carved with expressive character.
This piece was most likely produced in one of the renowned Italian alabaster workshops of Volterra or Florence, known for exporting mythological and classical revival sculptures throughout Europe and the Mediterranean during the late 19th century.
